Only moms can understand some things. I know the struggles mothers go through right from pregnancy to bringing up a man or woman. Mothers all over the world are looking for solutions to problems affecting their families, health, fashion etc.

Well, they are many ways to look at such situations. But today, I would like you to view it from a bloggers perspective. This translates to traffic. Traffic is the fuel that powers bloggers. It is the air that we breathe. Having a mommy blog means that you will definitely not lack traffic.

The good thing about having a mommy blog is that there are not so many blogs like this yet they is so much to talk about in this specific niche. To have a mommy blog you don’t necessarily have to contact an IT guy or web developer. I will teach you how to start your own Mommy blog in three simple steps…

How to start your own Mommy Blog in 3 Simple Steps

In just three steps, you will go from a widely knowledgeable mommy to a proud mummy blogger. Below is a three step guide to having your first blog followed by a video tutorial on the same. So brace yourself, because you are just about to have your own blog.

1. Choose and Buy Your Domain

A domain or URL is the web address pointing at your mommy blog. For instance, my domain name is http://www.buildyourownblog.net/. A good domain name should be unique, easy to remember.

Ideally, you should use a .com or a .net extension since there are the most popular and easiest to remember for your visitors. Good News Alert: If you purchase a hosting package from Bluehost you get a free domain! Once you’ve selected your desired domain name and confirmed it is not taken, you can proceed to step two. PS: a domain name must be unique.

2. Sign Up for Hosting

A Web host is a remote computer that stores all your web content. By all, I mean everything (including the fonts and Twitter button). A good web host will prove valuable, especially when you start getting increased traffic. Anyone who clicks on your domain name will retrieve the website from a web host server. I always recommend Bluehost for hosting because:

a. It is so easy to use

b. Signing up takes just moments, and they let you register your domain on their site as well.

c. If you purchase a hosting package, you get a free domain!

d. Their service is also very affordable so you don’t need to invest much at all to get your mommy blog started.

e. They offer excellent 24/7 customer support if needed.

[Disclosure] BlueHost gives me a small commission for my referral and it doesn’t add anything to your cost. This helps me continue to provide lots of free information for bloggers.

3. Install WordPress

You are now a step away from becoming a proud blog owner. Finally, you will need to install the actual software that will run your website. In this case we recommend the easy to use WordPress. WordPress is the most popular website platform in the world, and it is exceptionally easy to use, even for those with no previous experience. From your Bluehost control panel, you can have WordPress installed in just one simple click.

I tried as much as possible to use less technological jargon in order to accommodate both IT people and mommies. I’ve found that it is easier to follow these steps if you can actually see them being done. With this in mind, I’ve created a simple video that will walk you through each of these steps so you can see how it is done yourself. Watch this video, and then follow the link, which will bring you to BlueHost where you can purchase your domain and hosting.

Tips for the beginner Mommy blogger

Congratulations for creating your own blog. Now it is time to get it ready for your visitors. Here are a few tips to start you off.

  • Don’t Obsess Over the Numbers
Every newbie blogger has trouble with numbers. It’s tough avoiding the numbers. You will find that most of the times you will be checking the traffic statistics. That’s normal, but don’t let it get into your head. When the numbers drop, it doesn’t mean you are doing things the wrong way. Similarly, an increase in stats overnight doesn’t make you a hit. You should not let the numbers motivate you. You better have three loyal followers than a thousand fake followers who are not adding value to your blog.
  • Socialize and Interact with Other Mom Bloggers
The Golden rule of blogging is networking. In a marshy terrain, you will need some to pull you out when you get stuck. You will need someone to spot for you when the hills get higher. Interacting and socializing with other bloggers will prove more valuable than any your email contacts. Join the mom bloggers club, like a blogging page and always guest blog on their sites. This is a rub my back I rub your kind of relationship
  • Patience, Patience, Patience
Rome was not made in a day. Patience is a virtue within the blogosphere and you must learn to be patient for you to be a successful blogger. Don’t expect to be an overnight viral hit. And don’t expect the bank to start rolling just because you created your own blog (ouch. This is me setting fire to my own hair). It takes time to build an audience and to find loyal readers.
  • Increase your SEO rankings for better awareness
Search Engines have crawlers and web spiders that collect information from your blogs and present a selected theme. Use WordPress plugins to boost your SEO ranking and pay attention to the power of social media. Share your site with friends and all your email contacts… and watch your page rise to the top of Google.
  • Be consistent
Strive to write two-three blogs a week. Most bloggers will blog consistently for the first few months, and then they will get bored with blogging. If you want to continue blogging, then prepare some nice content and you will have site visitors that will motivate you to write more and more.
