Well the good news for those wishing to build your own website, it is no longer the daunting technical feat it once was.

Follow the steps below to help you make your own website in less than an hour!

Step 1 Pick a Website Building Platform

The days of needing to hire an expensive developer to create a website for you are long gone.

What is a website building platform?

Website building platforms are tools that allow you build a website without any manual code editing.

These online proprietary tools are provided by web hosting companies and are the best way to build website or to make a blog

They also provide excellent support with how-to-videos and help files and guides.

Most CMS platforms will allow users to install alternative tools, either commercial or open source.

The more complex of these alternative tools are known as Content Management Systems or CMS.

A content management system manages the creation and modification of digital content and are a common tool in creating your website for your business.

CMSs will support the separation of both content and presentation and generally include web-based publishing, editing and version control, indexing and search and retrieval options as well as format management.

Trendy Website building platforms

There are hundreds of CMSs out there, but WordPress is the most popular CMS platform.

WordPress is self-hosting and is a CMS market leader with 58.55% of the market share.

‘Netcraft’ estimated recently there are 172 million websites online, meaning 75,000,000 websites online are using the WordPress platform.

3 Reasons to choose WordPress for your website

1: Free to use – WordPress is an open source software and is free to download and use to create a website.

With its famous ‘5minute install’ you can launch the ‘WordPress’ site in just a few clicks.

It also offers close to 50,000 WordPress plug ins for free and to date they have been downloaded and installed close to 1.5 billion times.

2: Easy for Beginners – WordPress was created for non-technical bloggers.

The user-interface components are very straight forward to use, and there are both written and recorded manuals to learn about the WordPress functions.

It makes creating a website very simple easy process and simplifies a lot of the tedious tasks associated with web publishing.

3: Customization –WordPress has a built in modern ‘customizer’, so you can customize to the specific style and appearance that suits, it also suitable for specific blog niches.

The ‘customizer’ can be selected via the Appearance section in WordPress Admin and each individual webpage can be customized to suit your specific requirement.

For example, a specific logo, header and background image and colors can be chosen which can be tailored specific to your website.

WordPress has thousands of built in theme-based customization which control the entire design of your website.

Step 2: Pick a Domain and Webhosting

Next step to create a website, you need to choose your website name.

When you create a website for your business, the name you give it should be descriptive and detail what the website is about, it does not necessarily have to be a one-word name.

For example, if you have a ‘Fitness’ blog you may use the words ‘Keep Fit’ in the name, this will also let people know your website is about fitness.

Or if you create a personal website, it is recommended to use your ‘name’, you can also use middle names or initials in the website name.

To get your website online, you must choose a domain.

A .com extension is the most preferred, but you can also select .net or .org.

The website name can have no spaces, so ‘Keep Fit’ will become ‘KeepFit.com’.

Next check that your domain is available.

If not, you can change the extension, add small words like ‘a’, ‘my’ or ‘the’ to the name or add dashes between words like ‘Keep-Fit.com’.
